Also known for the periods of Charlemagne, Charles the Bald, and Charles the Simple. This variety probably falls squarely within the reign of Charles the Simple as it is of crude, late style. Morrison and Grunthal differentiate it from the earlier issues, and Grierson notes the ubiquity of the type in the Cuerdale Hoard, (circa 905 AD).
