Lucilla. Augusta, AD 164-182. Æ Sestertius (33mm, 28.68 g, 6h). Rome mint. Draped bust right / Venus standing left, holding apple(?) and scepter. RIC III 1763 or 1769 (Marcus Aurelius); cf. Banti 39. VF, green patina with rough deposits, a few spots of active corrosion on reverse.
From the Nera Collection.
There are two types of Lucilla sestertii with Venus holding a scepter, one with an apple and one where she simply holds out her right hand (although Banti only records examples with an apple). Unfortunately, a large rough deposit obscures her hand so that only a die match would reveal if there is an apple or not. RIC 1763 is with the apple, 1769 without.
