Pertinax. AD 193. AR Denarius (17mm, 2.41 g, 6h). Alexandria mint. Laureate head right / Ops seated left, holding grain ears. RIC -; RSC 33a. Near VF, typical porosity.


RIC and BMC make no distinction between the Rome and Alexandria mint denarii of Pertinax, though the styles are quite distinguishable. Two reverse types were struck at Alexandria, the type seen here and the other with Providentia. They are usually poorly preserved, with porosity and signs of extensive circulation.
