CAPPADOCIA, Caesaraea-Eusebia. Claudius. AD 41-54. AR Didrachm (20mm, 7.62 g, 12h). Laureate head left / DE BRITANNIS in exergue, Claudius in triumphal quadriga right, holding scepter. RPC 3625; Sydenham, Caesarea, 55; RIC I 122 . Near EF, toned, traces of deposits. Rare.


The didrachm was introduced during the reign of Claudius. The reverse type portrays a powerful piece of political propaganda; namely, Claudius returning triumphantly from Britain.
