Ex Dr. R. Drewry Collection (Glendining, 7 April, 1971, lot 342).

This medallion was struck in commemoration of Caracalla’s visit to Pergamum in AD 214 on his way to campaign against the Parthians. Such an imperial visit would have been a tremendous honor, and the reverse legend boasts of the city’s high status.
