IONIA, Uncertain. Circa 600-550 BC. EL Hekte – 1/6 Stater (2.21 g). Uncertain standard. Figural type. Forepart of bridled horse left, legs forward in running motion, and mane flowing behind / Quadripartite incuse square. Weidauer -; Traité -; SNG Kayhan -; SNG von Aulock -; Rosen -; Elektron 1 corr. (same obv. die; horse “head”). VF, toned, a little porous. Extremely rare with horse forepart.

While horse heads are relatively common electrum types, the forepart is traditionally found on depictions of Pegasos (cf. Weidauer 141ff). It is clear that no wing is present on the horse here, though, so it is certainly not Pegasos.
