Victorinus. Romano-Gallic Emperor, AD 269-271. Antoninianus (19mm, 2.63 g, 6h). Colonia Agrippinensis (Cologne) mint. 1st emission, AD 269. IMP C PI VICTORINVS AVG, laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right with features of Marius / AEQVITAS AVG, Aequitas standing left, holding scales and cornucopia. RIC V 41; Mairat 309-14; AGK 1b. EF.
When the mint at Cologne began striking coinage in the name of Victorinus, the engravers did not yet possess an image of the new emperor and, as a result, the initial strikings from the first emission contained an image of Marian style.
