Laureate and draped bust right / RESTITVTORI ACHAIAE, Hadrian standing left, holding roll, raising a kneeling Achaea; amphora containing palm between. RIC II 938 var. (also cuirassed); Banti 627. VF, dark green patina, traces of light smoothing. Rare. Banti lists only 6 examples.



Hadrian traveled more than any other Roman emperor, visiting many of the provinces in order to inspect and to improve their government. He struck a series a coins commemorating this 'restoration' of the provinces, of which this coin is an example.
