SASANIAN KINGS. Peroz I. AD 457/9-484. AV Reduced Dinar (20mm, 3.80 g, 3h). AY (Airan-khvarrah-Shahpur) mint. Crowned bust right, crescent on forehead / Fire altar with attendants and ribbon; star and crescent flanking flames; “Peroz” in degraded Pahlavi in left field, mint in right. SNS III Type IIIb/1c, A18; Göbl III/1. Good VF, lightly toned, struck with slightly rusty dies. Struck on a broad flan. Very rare.

The mint signature, which Göbl formerly read as AB, has since been revised by Malek (NC 1993) to read AY, which has also been adopted by Schindel (SNS III).
