SICILY, Syracuse. Dionysios I. 405-367 BC. AR Dekadrachm (43.31 g, 5h). Unsigned dies in the style of Euainetos. Struck circa 405-400 BC. Charioteer driving fast quadriga left, holding kentron in right hand, reins in left; above, Nike flying right, crowning charioteer with wreath; below heavy exergue line, [shield], greaves, cuirass, and Attic helmet, [all connected by a horizontal spear] / Wreathed head of Arethusa left, wearing triple-pendant earring and necklace; surrounded by four dolphins, pellet below chin. Gallatin dies R.XXI/J.I; SNG ANS 375 (same obv. die); BMC 180 (same dies); Boston MFA 430 (same dies). Good VF, lightly toned, moderate die rust on obverse.
