GREEK POTTERY. Magna Graecia. Apulia. 6th-4th Cent. BCE. (110 mm tall by 200 mm wide). A Skyphos with flattened foot, tall body that slightly tapers at foot and two handles to either side. The cup presents two figures in Redware, to the one side, a Lady of Fashion facing forward, head left with hair in a bun behind her head and wearing draping tunic. Opposite her a nude servant holding a tray. Between the figures, Rossette and vine patterns. Cup is cracked and repaired from rim down through base and back up to rim again. Some light encrustation. A large section around one of the handles is restored and painted. Evidence as well that the handle was restored and painted on that side. |
