INDIA, Colonial. British India. William IV. King of Great Britain and Ireland, 1830-1837. AR Rupee (31mm, 11.52 g, 10h). Mule issue. Bombay or Calcutta mint. Dated 1840/35. WILLIAM IIII, KING., head right / (ornament) EAST INDIA COMPANY (ornament) 1840., ONE/RUPEE in English and Persian in three lines; all within wreath. UCI –, but cf. 1.49a (probably Bombay); Pridmore –; KM 450.6 (Calcutta). In NGC encapsulation 6860910-002, graded XF Details, harshly cleaned (incorrectly referenced on NGC ticket). An extremely rare mule with a reverse of Victoria’s reign combined with an obverse of William IV. Known from a handful of specimens.
