The victory noted on the reverse of this impressive sestertius can only be the impending defeat of Jewish rebels in Judaea. As David Hendin notes, “Vitellius... apparently knew Vespasian, his chief rival for the throne, was approaching victory. In an effort to consolidate and spread word of his power, Vitellius issued the first Judaea Capta coins.”
