Nicol notes that Mu‘izziya was the formal name of Taormina (Arabic Tabarmin), captured by the forces of al-Mu‘izz after a seven month siege in AH 351 (AD 962). This coin was struck around the time that Taormina was besieged by the forces of the Norman ruler, Roger of Sicily.
