'Abbasid Caliphate. Possibly temp. Al-Muqtadir. AH 295-320 / AD 908-932. AR Medallion (25.6mm, 5.46 g, 7h). No legends. Obverse: Eagle standing right with curved beak, wings spread / Reverse: Zebu kneeling left. Some deposit. VF. Extremely rare and apparently unpublished.

The animal on the reverse of this anepigraphic medallion appears to be a zebu, identifiable by the distinctive hump on its back and dewlap on its neck. The zebu is depicted on silver donative issues of al-Muqtadir (Ilisch B I 1-4) and al-Muti‘ (Ilisch B I 5). The medallion itself appears to weigh approximately two dirhams.
