Umayyad Caliphate, Silver coinage. AR Dirham (26.1mm, 2.77 g, 1h). Radhan mint. Dated AH 90 (AD 708/9). Klat 378 (same dies as illustration) = al-‘Ajlan 90/97. Arabic graffiti in reverse field. Good VF. Excessively rare, only two specimens recorded by Klat.

Radhan is one of the very rarest Umayyad dirham mints, known only from a tiny number of specimens dated AH 90. The districts of Upper and Lower Radhan lay about twenty miles south of present-day Baghdad, and included the ancient city of Ctesiphon, which also appears as an Umayyad dirham mint under the name of al-Madinat al-‘Atiqa. Mediaeval writers extolled the quality of the crops and produce grown in the district of Radhan.
