IONIA, Teos. Circa 450-425 BC. AR Stater (20mm, 11.97 g). Griffin seated right, raising left forepaw, on an ornamented ground line; to right, swan standing right / Quadripartite incuse square. Matzke Series Cb1; Balcer Group LII, 101 var. (A101/P– [unlisted rev. die]); SNG von Aulock –; SNG Copenhagen –; Boston MFA 1939 = Warren 1135 (same obv. die); Triton XXII, lot 253 (same dies). Attractive iridescent golden tone in recessed areas, a touch off center. EF.
