Bare head right / ΔHM • ЄΞO V C • VΠAT • B •, Homonoia standing facing, head left, holding a patera and cornucopia; to left, lighted altar. From the Lionel Tenby Collection. Ex Classical Numismatic Group 91 (19 September 2012), lot 753; Jencek Historical Enterprise 11 (ND), lot 46.

In an unusual dating system for the time, this series of tetradrachms was issued carrying Aelius’ titles (and subsequent dates) as tribune and consul, the latter for the second time. Other series from Alexandria generally involved the dating of the coins with respect to the emperor’s regnal year rather than the conventions employed here.

Closing Date and Time: 21 February 2024 at 11:52:40 ET.

All winning bids are subject to a 20% buyer’s fee.
