THRACE, Byzantion. Circa 260-245 BC. AR Tetradrachm (29mm, 12.94 g, 12h). In the name and types of Lysimachos. Diademed head of the deified Alexander right, with horn of Ammon / Athena Nikephoros seated left, left arm resting on shield, spear in background; ΣI to inner left. Marinescu Issue 23, 61 var. (O25/R– [unlisted rev. die]); Müller 453; HGC 3, 1394; SNG Ashmolean 3771 (same obv. die). Lightly toned, softly struck on obverse, test cut at edge and slightly off center on reverse. Near VF. Underweight specimen, possibly a fourrée (but no indications of such). |
