CARIA, Alabanda. temp. Claudius. AD 41-54. Æ (22mm, 11.44 g, 6h). Draped bust of Apollo Isotimos right; before, laurel branch / Demeter, wearing calathus, veiled, standing facing, head left, holding poppy and ears of grain in each hand. RPC I 2818B. Dark green patina with earthen deposits, light smoothing. Near VF. Very rare, only three known to RPC, none in CoinArchives.

From the Aleph Collection, purchased from Marc Breitsprecher, July 2019.

The epithet Isotimos for Apollo is believed to have meant equal in honor to Zeus Chrysaoreus, and is only found at Alabanda. RPC lists two types, both with this obverse type and legend, and attributes them to a magistrate named Isotimos, but that must be an oversight.

Closing Date and Time: 16 August 2023 at 11:52:00 ET.

All winning bids are subject to a 20% buyer’s fee.
