SICILY, Syracuse. Agathokles. 317-289 BC. AR Stater (18.5mm, 6.15 g, 2h). Reduced Corinthian standard. Struck circa 304-289 BC. Helmeted head of Athena left; trident behind neck / Pegasos flying left; star above. Pegasi 26 (same dies as illustration); BAR Issue 32; HGC 2, 1408. Toned, patches of find patina, rough surfaces, numerous cleaning marks and scratches, two digs on obverse, edge filed and marked. VF. Very rare, only two other examples in CoinArchives, including the sole example illustrated in Pegasi.
