HADRIAN. 117-138 AD. AR Cistophoric Tetradrachm (10.31 gm). Ephesus mint. Bare head right / Temple of Diana (Artemis) Ephesia; no akroteria at roof. RIC III 476; Metcalf, Cistophori 68 var. (unlisted dies); RSC 538b. VF, patchy porosity. ($300)

Metcalf records only two examples of this type, both overstruck on tetradrachms of Mark Antony; this appears to be the case here also. Metcalf also distinguishes the reverse of this, his type 10, from type 8 by the number of steps leading up to the temple; a more evident feature is the lack of akroteria on the roof.
