ANGLO-SAXON, Archbishops of Canterbury. Wulfred. 805-832. AR Penny (20mm, 1.30 g, 8h). Unlisted Group, obverse similar to Groups VI-VII. Canterbury mint; Sæbeorht, moneyer. Struck circa 823-832. + VVL FRED, tonsured bust facing, extending to outer edge / + SAEBERHT, cross pattée. Cf. Naismith C67.2a (for obv. type); SCBI –; BMC –; EMC 2015.0140 = PAS BH-24D8C4 = Coin Register 2015, 91 (this coin); North –; cf. SCBC 891–2 (for obv.). VF, a little soft on obverse, minor edge knock. The sole example known of this type.
