KINGS of MACEDON. Perseus. 179-168 BC. AR Didrachm (8.37 gm, 5h). Pella or Amphipolis mint; Zoilos, mintmaster. Struck circa 179-178 BC. Diademed head right; ZWILOU below / BASILEWS PERSEWS, harpa; control marks (monograms) above and below; all within oak wreath, star to left. Cf. Mamroth, Perseus 1 (tetradrachm); cf. AMNG III 1 (tetradrachm); SNG Alpha Bank -; cf. SNG München 1196 (tetradrachm). VF, well centered and struck. Unique didrachm from the first series of Perseus. ($3000)

This is the only known didrachm from the first series of Perseus, identified by the mintmaster's signature below the king's neck. Only five tetradrachms were previously known for this issue.
