Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Louis XIV to right, wearing aegis and with his armor decorated with fleurs-de-lis; below, R. Rev. CELERITAS.ET.PROVIDENTIA / EXPEDITIO.GANDAV. / M.DC.LXXVIII. (=Speed and Providence - the expedition to Ghent, 1678) Victory alighting to right, holding arrow and winged hourglass; to right, female figure seated to left, wearing grain wreath and holding a cornucopiae; below her, arms and munitions; behind, view of the city of Ghent. Van Loon III, p. 225, I. Very rare. A large and impressive piece, nicely toned. Some very minor marks, otherwise, extremely fine.
