ΟΠΟΝΤΙΩΝ Ajax, nude but for crested helmet, striding right, holding short sword in his right hand and shield with his right; interior of shield ornamented with griffin running right and palmette; below right, bunch of grapes; on ground, broken spear. McClean 5431 and pl. 198, 7. SNG Copenhagen 45. A particularly lovely example, well centered and of the finest mid 4th century style. Extremely fine.
